Blind Awareness Day - Project Puppy

blind awareness day

Project Puppy is a Grade 5 Initiative to help raise awareness amongst the boys for people who are visually impaired or blind.

Through donations from the boys, we are hoping to raise enough funds to adopt a puppy to go through the intensive training needed to become a guide dog.

As part of the program the WHPS boys were treated to a talk from the Guide Dog Association of South Africa on Wednesday 11th of May.

The boys were introduced to Kaiser the puppy who we are hoping to sponsor, and watched a video on how the Association trains dogs to become guide dogs.

After the demonstration the boys took part in various activities around the school, to help them gain an understanding of what it feels like to be blind and how difficult common tasks become when you are unable to see.

From getting dressed and making a sandwich, to navigating an obstacle course and playing soccer, the boys came to realize the importance of clear communication, both when trying to explain a task to someone and to following instructions when trying to complete a task blindfolded.

WHPS strongly believes in the importance of giving back to society and that every boy in the school can make a difference.
