Blind Awareness Day Activity

by David Bradfield
( Grade 7G )

It was quite unusual to bring a blindfold to school when we had to participate in a Blind Awareness Day Activity.

Each person in grade7G got handed a plate, a knife, a fork, butter, jam and a bun. We were told to put on our blindfolds and then found out that we had to cut the bun open and spread the butter and the jam on it with no sight.

Even more came: we then had to eat it with a knife and fork...blindfolded!! It was very tricky to feel what was happening on my plate, and unfortunately it was a very messy task which ended up cutting the desk.

It was all fun and games, but then we thought of those who eat like this every day and we realized that it was not a good feeling not knowing where your food is and what it looks like.

At the end we then knew why we took part in this and we were grateful to have sight of our own.
