Classroom Math Games - Junior Prep Maths Treasure TrailAll the boys from Grade 0 to Grade 3 participated enthusiastically in the classroom math games and the 2010 Junior School Maths Trail. The trail followed an organised route around the school environment. The specific areas of mathematics that we highlighted were counting, measuring, capacity, time, direction, problem solving, construction and a few puzzles and teasers were thrown in along the route. ![]() The trail capitalised on the boys' natural urge to explore and discover mathematical links. At each stopping point a challenge was set which had to be completed before moving on to the next station. At all the stations the boys were actively involved in questions and discussions and they were encouraged to explore, investigate, record information and data, to estimate and measure and solve problems together.
![]() Our aim was to have boys discover that mathematics could be applied to real life situations, making Primary School Maths meaningful, enjoyable and interesting. I think we managed to achieve all these goals successfully. Maths is alive and well at WHPS! Elaine Cornish
"The essence of mathematics is not to make simple things complicated,
but to make complicated things simple."
