Grade 5 Outing to Sci-enza Museum

by Brigitte Theunissen
(WHPS)

The Grade Five boys were very excited about their first real Science outing.

They arrived at the Sci-enza building at Pretoria University to find hundreds of amazing activities. The best part of it all was that they were allowed to TOUCH everything! What more could you ask for?

They attended a lecture in the auditorium where much of what they have been learning about in class was presented to them. A few exciting experiments were done on air and water.

The Camera Obscura was fascinating and the boys saw the university and surrounding area projected onto a screen.

"The scientist is not a person who gives the right answers,
He is one who asks the right questions."

Science Magic

One of my favourite things was the Pendulum.

The Parabolic mirrors were two mirrors facing each other. It had a spring with a metal loop. If you whispered into one end and your friend was at the other end - he could hear you clearly!

Of course it was cool!

Cool Experience
by: Ethan- John Stoffels

I enjoyed the Block puzzle because it got me really thinking about all the ways you can put it together but only one way will be correct!

I learnt a lot about AIR - especially the fact that when you blow you are pushing air away.

It was a cool experience!

Spy Mirror gets my Vote
by: Nicholas Mundell

We had an awesome visit to the Camera Obscura at TUKS. It is a mirror that swiveled on top of the building.

It projected a moving image of outside onto a round white table using lenses to help focus the image.

It was originally used for spying!!
