Grahamstown Report Back 2010

by Brigitte Theunissen, Gary Viljoen, Dee Norris
(WHPS)

Our much awaited Grahamstown Tour kicked off early on Friday morning. The boys waved goodbye to their parents and set off aboard their flight. An hour later we were still sitting on board the flight waiting for typical 'aeroplane politics' to give the permission to take off! Fortunately we were finally in the air!

We arrived safely at the St Andrews hostel, but due to our late arrival we had to rush to the Village Green for a quick lunch before our first show. This proved to be one of the highlights of the trip. David Newton, a stand-up comedian, had us all in stitches of laughter! Hours later we were all still giggling at his jokes….

We were lucky to see David for a second time that evening with his second show which was just as amusing. By the end of day 1, we were tired but had laughed enough to keep us content during the cold night.

So many shows, so much shopping! The boys went from one to the other with a break only to fill up hungry tummies! Each show was excellent and it was hard to decide exactly which one was the best! It amazed the teachers to see how much shopping was done by the boys, especially in the fashion stakes! Many of the boys changed up to three times a day!!!!

Luca Ferrara summed up the feelings of the boys by saying, "Please can you change our flights, M’aam? I so badly want to stay longer!"

THE! Tour
by: Kimon Savvas

EXCITING!!!!!!!!!!!!!
FUN!!!!!!!!!!!!
ORGANISED!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Grahamstown tour has definitely been the best tour I have ever been on! We went to see 11 shows all of which were great, though the ones I enjoyed the most were:

DEKAF: Stand up Comedy done by Siv Ngesi. Hilarious!

LAUGH and POLITICALLY INCORRECT: Both Stand up Comedy done by David Newton. Very Funny!

RAIDERS OF THE LAST AARDVARK: Hilarious as well. Two old men. Multiple characters. Well done!

STILTED: An ACROBAT on STILTS. Excellent!!

SIDE-SPLITTING STEFF: Live hypnotist that hypnotized crowd members this particular shows was completely amazing and unbelieveable!!

Most of the other highlights were things like shopping in the Flea Market and the Village Green to CAF (Children's Art Festival)

At CAF we did Plenty of fun things. They thought us to play the kalimba, we made our own makarapas and we made our own chocolate bars with wrappers and every thing else as well. I think it is safe to say that all of us had plenty of fun.

"He can swim, dogs like him and he didn't vote for Zuma! he's a new generation black guy!!"

"I'm drunk and I must be responsible. So I will spend the least amount of time on the road and so I must drive as fast as possible."

It was THE tour and I had lots of fun

Grahamstown A Festival Like No Other!!!
by: Lohan Coetzee

AWESOME, ENTERTAINING, FUNNY

The most eventful and entertaining tour I have been on thus far in my life. My expectations of Grahamstown was exceeded with ease.

It was a busy town with much to do; shows to watch, shopping to do and places to see. Three shows we watched stood above them all. These included, Laugh, Politically Incorrect starring David Newton, Dekaf starring Siv Ngesi and sidesplitting stef's hypnosis starring Dr.Stef.

We were given more freedom every day as we slowly started exploring Grahamstown. Before the last day we had shopped at the village green which was an annual place to shop. But on the last day we were allowed to shop at the flee markets we got some great deals. Some people drove a tough bargain whereas other were easy going. Some of us bought more things we had planned and were broke after this experience.

We were accompanied by Mr Vijoen, Mrs T, Mrs Norris and Ms A Norris {her daughter]. On the way back we rode past The Nelson Mandela Bay stadium. Which was a huge hit. Thank you.

GRAHAMSTOWN,Awesome,exciting and funny!

GRAHAMSTON!!!! Well what can I say this was by far the greatest school trip ever.

There were great memories and stories to tell such as the hypnotist show and David Newtons comedies! It was also great fun to go and shop in the flea market on the last day ( and get lost in the process. Most of the shopping time was spent in the green were they sold delicious and fairly cheap "KUDU BURGERS".

One of the memories I will remember, was when me and my group needed to get back to the green but we were lost and only had ten minutes (yet we still stopped for KFC)and made it with a minute to spare.

It was cool to stay in dorms with anyone you like at St.Andrews. So from the first flight to the last touch down I can honestly say . . . . THIS WAS THE GREATEST TRIP EVER!!!!!

Geatest Tour in Gr. 7 !
by: Calvin Geeringh

AMAZING!!!
FANTASTIC!!!
FUNNY!!!

Grahamstown is all of these things and more. From the hilarious comedies to the shopping sprees, every minute is amazing.

The highlights of the trip was DEKAF by Siv Nges, the hipnotist, and David Newton's Laughf.

Some of the jokes by Siv was "Black people are never wanting to waste airtime on calling people, so they start to send please call me's, and they're getting so good that they're even starting to personalise them like "pls call me, Happy Birthday" or "pls call me, car broke down"

Another funny thing was at the hipnotist that probably the highlight of the the show, he made two people that hated each other fall in love.

It really was the best tour and highlight of Gr. 7 for me.

Grahamstown...What a Beast!!!
by: Lulu Mokwena

Exciting! Memorable!...Theatre!

Grahamstown was by far the best tour I have ever been on. Grahamstown is a fantastic place to be.

There are many theatre performances as well as small "spaza" like shops. One of the places we visited on a regular basis is known as "The Village Green". The Village Green was a place where you could buy all sorts of things as well as food.

We stayed at the St Andrews Armstrong Hostel wich was not far from the commocian of the street. The Matron there organised for us to sleep in dorms on different levels. The food from the Hostel was amazing! We had breakfast early in the morning at around 7, and dinner at 5.30.

We were given R50 each per day from Mrs T to buy lunch as there were fast food services around. We enjoyed many good times. Memorable moments.

We walked to many different theatres to watch shows such us: David Newton-Politically Incorrect and Laugh, Sivungile-Dekaf and also the very hysterical and amazing Hypnotist.

Where we bought things, we would ussualy bargain for group discount as we were instructed to walk in groups of 4 or more at all times. The group that I was a part of bought yak caps which are beanie like hats with a brade running down each side and fuzz on the top. The yak caps were very warm. While shopping I also bought a Puma belt, an Armani belt, and five necklaces (one for each of my family members).

The Grahamstown tour was great and I learnt many values including responsability. Many thanks to Mr Viljoen, Mrs T, Mrs Norris and Dr Norris.

Grahamstown: The Place To Be!!!
by: Mpho Ramahala

Fanastic, Exciting, Amazing!

Grahamstown was the best tour I have experienced in my life so many things to do , so many places to go,watching the shows and doing some shopping.

One of my highlights of this tour was the Dekaf and Politically Incorrect shows starring Siv Ngesi and David Newton, Two words: Simply Incredible!

Another one of my highlights was the Village Green and the Flea markets where we had to bargain to get something cheap. I enjoyed shopping for myself and my family with my group, the first few days we observed what we would like to buy and on the last day of the tour we went NUTS! trying to bargain for all the things we wanted, some owners being very difficult to bargain with and others quite easy to make a deal with.

In Grahamstown we did much walking to go to the different venues of the shows we watched and the places that we had to go.

I can truly say that Grahamstown was the best tour of my life, there were many people that help me find different places I advise all of you to go to this town it will be a memorable experience.

I Would like to thank all the teachers for taking us on this tour and it was a wonderful experience with you all.

The Action Packed TOUR!!!
by: Louie Wu

AYOBA!!!
EXCITING!!!!
FUNNY!!!!!

The Grahamstown tour was GREAT and i enjoyed every second of it. We has seen many shoes but i had a few that were the best, such as The Hypnotist show, both of David Newton's shows called laugh and politically incorrect, big boys don't dance and dekaf by Siv Nges.

My funniest and jokes memories had to be many of David Newton's jokes and Siv's jokes like how you could customize your please calls me's to be like sms's and how in The Hypnotist said sleep and all the people being hypnotised all of a sudden fell asleep.

The shopping was great and I bought a lot of things such as bangles, bracelets, many necklaces, flasses such as aviators and caps.

This was truly an amazing trip and I will never forget this.

Grahamstown Rocks!
by: Sean Pentz

Awesome!
Exciting!
Great!
My favourite shows were by far Politically Incorrect, Laugh, Dekaf, The Hypnosis Show and Big Boys Don't Dance.

My funniest memories were when David Newton made fun of the loslappie song and when Siv said that he was a new generation black guy. Dogs don't chase him and he can swim properly.
