Music at the Annual WHPS Golf Day

The annual WHPS Golf Day was held on Friday 18 September at the Pretoria Country Club.

The WHPS orchestra, as is the tradition, performed for the entertainment of the golfers who teed off very early! This year, with a slight difference though...

The focus was completely on the Gr.7 boys. The Pretoria Eisteddfod prize winning percussion groups performed their respective items and an orchestra consisting only of Gr.7 boys performed musical items.

Yet again, the high standards of music coming from our WHPS boys were showcased in a spectacular way.

ABRSM Music Conference

On Saturday 17 September a Music Conference was hosted by WHPS.

Tim Arnold, ABRSM's International Operations Director, hosted this teacher's conference and relayed some very valuable insights into the workings of the ABRSM exam process. The teachers were also offered a lecture on lesson planning for individual instrument tuition and challenged them to think differently about their approach when teaching certain musical aspects.

Many music teachers from Pretoria and Johannesburg attended this conference - new contacts were made and ideas exchanged.

We aim to apply the teaching strategies we had heard of at WHPS in order to further better our music education.
