Our WHPS Midmar Mile Experience

by Gavin Marsh

On the 8th of February, we set off on an exciting and fun filled weekend at the Mid-Mar Mile Dam and Michael House.

After a long day in the car we came to the gates of Michael House. We were met by some old Whpsian boys who showed us around the School. We had a delicious dinner, watched a movie and then……… bed.

We woke the next morning, already, with butter-flies in our tummies as we went to a good breakfast to keep our energy up during the swim. We then set off to swim a mile in what seemed to be a swarm of bodies. We waited a nerve-wrecking three hours before our race.

As the horn went off, hundreds of people threw themselves into the murky water. In what seemed like a few minutes of hard work- the race was over. We all did well; finishing well before the cut-off time and holding the Whpsian name high.

The next few hours we spent at the fair. After a lot of sweets and a few roller-coaster rides, you could see we had had enough.

We went back to Michael House for another satisfying dinner. We played a few games and again watched an exciting movie and then unfortunately, yet again, bed.

The next morning we woke up bright and early and headed for home. In what felt like a flash, the weekend was over. We returned home tired but happy.

Thank you to Miss. Blackhall, Mr. Neilson, Mr. Smith and all the swimmers for an amazing experience.
