WHPS Grade 5 Camp 2008

The boys having a wonderful time at the WHPS Grade 5 camp.

Grade 5 Camp

Somebody once said – “education is what takes place outside the classroom”. This is especially true when boys attend Camp each year. The Grade 2 to 7’s attended various Camp sites last week and much learning, fun and social interaction took place. (… oh and very little sleep! )

Boys experienced the value of team-work, the joy of new friendships and the satisfaction of achieving common goals on Camp. Many of them are thrown outside their comfort zones and yet realise the wonderful feeling they get from coping with this situation. Those more comfortable and confident assist their friends. Friendly competition is encouraged with boys egging on team-mates.

Camps are a very important part of each child’s schooling. They allow the child to explore life away from their family but in a safe and secure setting, they encourage independence and promote social interaction. Camps instill confidence and a feeling of achievement. They allow children the opportunity to show another side of them outside the classroom. They teach children the values and skills so necessary in real life situations. – In truth they “educate for life”.

Camps are also essential for teachers – we are reminded of what is actually important, of what little boys love to do, of how important having fun really is and finally…….. of why we chose to be teachers in the first place!
