WHPS Tour to Grahamstown Festival 2009

The much-awaited tour to the Grahamstown Festival took place this year from 3 to 7 July. The boys were all terribly excited and couldn't wait for the plane to take off. After arriving in Port Elizabeth, we climbed onto a bus and headed towards Grahamstown. The weather was unusually warm with the boys muttering about their Mom's forcing them to take so many warm jackets!

We dropped off our luggage at Mullins House and headed straight for the Village Green. After a disappointing look at the market on the Village Green we were told that it had now moved to a new venue on the University grounds. There wasn't time to check this out as we had to watch the first show.

The first show was fantastic but they got better and better each time. If laughter makes a person grow old – we will all live to be well over a hundred! Between the shows, we enjoyed the new Village Green Market with the wonderful variety of things to buy. Many boys tasted the famous 'Kudu burger' as well as the delicious freshly squeezed orange juice.

We danced till late at the Magnificent Seven Rock show, laughed until our jaws ached at the various comedy shows and walked around the town until our feet were sore.

  • "That was the coolest trip ever!"
  • "It was the best School event I was ever on"
  • "David Newton is a legend"
  • "This was a one million out of ten tour"
  • "Once in a lifetime opportunity"

Finally on a cold Friday morning at 5.00am we met at the airport to begin what was to be a week of shows, laughter, shopping and more laughter!

The week was packed with eleven shows, 'shop – till – you – drop', kilometers of walking and laughter galore!

When asked for their most memorable moments, the boys listed the following:
