WHPS – Leadership: Grade 1 & 7 Bell Ringing Ceremony 2021
Leadership – Grade 1 & 7 Bell Ringing Ceremony. At WHPS, Leadership plays an important role in the boys’ education and is encouraged across all the grades. It is a value-driven programme that is one of the skills identified as essential for producing 21st Century citizens.
In Grade 7, the boys are taught servant leadership which sees them leading by example. When they were in Grade 6, they were allocated a reading buddy in Grade 0. Now that they are in Grade 7, their reading buddies are no longer across the road and have now joined them at “big school”.
It is tradition that the Grade 1 boys start their new journey by ringing the school bell. Assisting them with this daunting task was their Grade 7 reading buddy. The significance of the Grade 7s accompanying the Grade 1s is that at the end of the year, on their final day of school, those same Grade 7s will ring the bell which will announce the end of their journey at WHPS.
The excitement was palpable as each boy arrived at the bell, ready for their turn to announce their arrival. The Bell Ringing tradition at WHPS is certainly a very significant and important part of the many aspects that make WHPS the special school that it is. It was a wonderful morning, and a special “rite of passage” that the boys will carry with them long after they leave WHPS and become WHPS Old Boys.
A short video of each session has been compiled and we hope that you will enjoy sharing in this special occasion with the WHPS boys.
