Senior Inter-House Cricket

Senior Inter-House Cricket: Albeit that WHPS has missed several inter-school cricket matches as school sporting programmes find their feet in the year of 2021, we were extremely fortunate to be able to play internal games and have a fantastic, competitive and enjoyable inter-house tournament this year. This year’s tournament saw the introduction of an elective powerplay for the batting side, which could be taken at any point during the match. Points were also awarded for a batsman reaching 30 and retiring so that the value of keeping your wicket could be recognized and rewarded. The bowling side received a point for every wicket they were able to take from the opposition batting line-up. This lead to some high scoring games, as along with the 3 points for the win, 10 points were achieved from bowling their opponents out as well as a point for a retired batsman.

It was a great outing on Saturday the 13th of March as the four houses played their first two fixtures of the tournament. With results of Saturday setting up an exciting round of T20 fixtures for the third and final round. With three houses still in the hunt for the top positions, it was up for grabs for the team that could hold their nerve the best. A low scoring thriller between Carter (69 all out) and MacRobert (70 for the loss of 9 wickets) tested the equations on the points table. Both teams had similar journeys throughout the tournament, but ultimately Carter were the victors, by only two points as they managed a couple more wickets throughout their three matches.

Well done to all the boys involved as well as all four houses that put up some great displays of cricket. The finishing order of the houses are as follows:

1st Carter
2nd MacRobert
3rd Lloyd
4th Ruddell
